Weekly Recruiting Update: Joejuan Williams visit, Offers, and More

No commits to speak of this week, but still plenty of news as Dore Jam nears for the Commodores. #Select16

Kelly Lambert-USA TODAY Sports

Fall camp is underway! While everyone took the picture Vanderbilt posted on Twitter and ran with it to the wrong conclusions, one thing is certain; Derek Mason is not going to let this season become a disaster. He is working to install an entirely new culture in Nashville, one that focuses on player development and recruiting players others overlook rather than looking for JUCO talent and offering the best players around. The #Select16 so far is further evidence of this. On to the updates!

Targets Who Committed Elsewhere

Traveon Redd- Wake Forest

Dredrick Snelson- Minnesota

Donta Evans- Ole Miss

Now that the bad news is out of the way, let's take a look at some recent offers;

Offers

2017 OL Jacob Rimmer- Rimmer is a powerful offensive line prospect who plays for Milan HS in nearby Milan, Tennessee. Vandy is Rimmer's first reported offer, but with his size and talent, (6-foot-6 and 260 pounds going into his junior year of high cchool) he'll draw more attention as the class of 2017's recruiting picks up. Rimmer recently visited campus, and you can read his thoughts here ($)

2016 OT Henry Hattis- Hattis is the top player in the state of New Mexico. He plays for Cleveland HS in Rio Rancho, NM. Hattis an impressive list from schools much closer to him than Vanderbilt, with his offers including Arizona, Arizona State, both New Mexico and New Mexico State, Stanford and Texas Tech. While the 'Dores have arrived in his recruitment a little late, never discount the factor of playing in the SEC or the value of the degree he could obtain by spending his next 4-5 years in Nashville.

Offers have definitely slowed down lately compared to the earlier stages in the summer, which means that visits are in full swing. We will keep you updated all season at AoG on who visited each weekend, you can count on that. While these are all unofficial visits, once toe meets leather for the first time in less than 3 weeks now, the official visits can begin.

Recent Visits

Alan Lamar- Lamar is a running back who plays for DeSoto Central HS in Southaven, MS. He currently holds a little over a dozen offers. Vanderbilt may not be one of them, but they are one of several P5 schools that have shown recent interest in the three-star running back. Check out his highlights, and let us know what you think.

Joejuan Williams- Williams is clearly the top recruit on the board for the Commodores, and just hours after releasing new uniforms for the season, Williams was seen on campus wearing them:

Williams recently tranferred to Hendersonville HS and is arguably the top player in the state of Tennessee. He holds offers from several "national powers" such as Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame just to list a few. Following his latest visit to Nashville, the 247Sports Crystal Ball added some picks for Williams to end up a Commodore.

Current CB commit Frank Coppet was quoted as saying that he remains solid in his commitment to the Commodores and that he hasn't heard from anyone else. More on that here ($)

QB commit and local talent Deuce Wallace has been recruiting hard for the 'Dores both on social media and on the field. Wallace has been on campus several times since his commitment and will be on campus this Saturday as well.

As the season draws near, prior to kickoff there will be a Top 25 target list we will have here at AoG that will go over some new targets and potential pieces to complete the #Select16. Also, we will be giving weekly updates on how each of our current verbal commitments did on the field in the previous week. Should be a great weekend to be in Nashville, so enjoy the Dore Jam, and as always #AnchorDown.
