Well, here goes nothing.

Vanderbilt opens SEC play this afternoon with a visit from Alabama, which is ranked 6th in KenPom and... didn’t even receive a vote in this week’s coaches poll (they did get three in the AP poll, or two fewer than Grand Canyon.) Alabama’s top three scorers are all seniors, Mark Sears (19.3 ppg), Grant Nelson (14.2 ppg), and Aaron Estrada (13.8 ppg.) They lead the country in averaging 92.8 ppg. Somehow, this team has lost five games, to Ohio State, Clemson, Purdue, Creighton, and Arizona — in other words, teams that aren’t in Vanderbilt’s class.

Vanderbilt has gone 2-7 after a 3-1 start, though they did beat Dartmouth last time out, for whatever that’s worth. This feels like it’s going to be a long day. But maybe not for the comments? The women’s game is tomorrow.
