Report: Vanderbilt hiring Jerry Kill in off-field role

Clark Lea is just hiring New Mexico State’s coaching staff whole hog, huh?

Yahoo’s Pete Thamel reported that Vanderbilt is set to hire Jerry Kill to an off-field consulting role.

Kill is a long-time head coach with 24 seasons between Saginaw Valley State, Emporia State, Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Minnesota, and most recently New Mexico State, in addition to a four-game stint as TCU’s interim coach in 2021. He has a career record of 175-115. Health issues cut short his Minnesota tenure and since that time, he’s mostly worked in administrative roles until his two seasons at New Mexico State.

I’m not sure what the “consulting” role is going to entail, but having an experienced head coach around to advise Clark Lea seems like it’s probably a good idea.
