Anchor Drop, December 5, 2023: De’Rickey Wright to the portal

Maybe we’re done? For now?

Good morning.

Optional Musical Accompaniment

Two more portalities from Monday: De’Rickey Wright and Logan Kyle both announced their departures.

Honestly, this might be the end of the first wave of portal entries. There will probably be a few more trickling in over the next few weeks, but by now we’ve probably gotten out of the way most of the guys who were obviously going to leave (for a variety of reasons; that includes both guys who were visibly unhappy or were being misused, as well as guys leaving for the stereotypical playing time/grad transfer reasons.)

Notably, the scholarship chart is down to 82 players. So far, there’s been just one incoming transfer (Zaylin Wood from MTSU), and there are a few more guys who haven’t announced anything yet but don’t appear to be expected back. I would also expect there to be a wave of departures after spring ball.

Additionally, offensive lineman Bradley Ashmore declared for the NFL Draft:

And in good news: CJ Taylor announced that he’s returning.

And finally, a quick update on the basketball team.

That’s somehow not the worst Power 5 team! Louisville is 279th!
