Well, I thought I had a shitty day yesterday, but it turns out... a lot of us did?

Yeah, Boston College beating SMU, Rutgers beating Miami, Arizona beating Oklahoma ... these weren’t expected results. Kansas State apparently did have Will Howard available against NC State. We were all fooled. I actually managed to extend my lead in spite of going 1-3 and whiffing on three high-confidence picks... while slapping 7 points on Rutgers. So yeah.

Gator Bowl: Clemson vs. Kentucky (11:00 AM CT, ESPN/ESPN+): I am not kidding, I saw Clemson and Kentucky and assumed this was the Music City Bowl matchup. Nope! It’s the Gator Bowl.

Sun Bowl: Oregon State vs. Notre Dame (1:00 PM CT, CBS): The Sun Bowl is one of the most fun bowl games, because it’s somehow the only one broadcast on CBS, and also because like the Independence Bowl it’s been around for a long time and there’s a real tradition there that gets overlooked because it’s in El Paso (or Shreveport) instead of, like, some “family-friendly” destination like the five bowl games in Orlando. Plus, this is a great matchup.

Liberty Bowl: Memphis vs. Iowa State (2:30 PM CT, ESPN/ESPN+): You know, I could probably apply the above paragraph to the Liberty Bowl, too.

Cotton Bowl: Missouri vs. Ohio State (7:00 PM CT, ESPN/ESPN+): Weirdly the first game of the New Year’s Six is probably the bowl game today that I’m least looking forward to, because Ohio State is giving off very strong “doesn’t want to be here” vibes (and in many cases, they are literally not going to be here.) If there’s a necessary ingredient for a truly shitty bowl game it’s always “one or both teams does not want to be here,” though at least Missouri almost certainly wants to be here.
