As Vanderbilt goes into a game having lost a starter to a season-ending injury for what feels like the 20th consecutive year, well, let’s just have a look at “games lost to injury by regular or projected starters” over the past few years:

  • 2022-23: Liam Robbins (11 games)
  • 2021-22: Liam Robbins (21 games), Rodney Chatman (20 games)
  • 2020-21: Dylan Disu (8 games of a 25-game season)
  • 2019-20: Aaron Nesmith (18 games), Clevon Brown (23 games)
  • 2018-19: Darius Garland (27 games)
  • 2017-18: Matthew Fisher-Davis (15 games)

So uh, yeah, we’re now on a seven-year run of bad luck with injuries. (Vanderbilt didn’t have any key player miss significant time for three years before that, but let’s also not forget that 2013-14 was the year of the Magnificent Seven, although that was driven as much by preseason departures and other bullshit — Eric McClellan’s dismissal from the program — as injuries.)

Anyway, Western Carolina comes to town tonight and this may not go well. See you in the comments. Maybe, if I feel like commenting.
