December 18 AoG Bowl Pick ‘Em Standings and Schedule

Ahem, some of us did well on Saturday.

NCAA Football: Western Kentucky at Marshall Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

Bowl season, summed up in a single tweet:

Yes, on Saturday it seemed that that was what mattered. Ohio got hammered by portal opt-outs, only it turns out their opponent Georgia Southern might have been literally hammered a few hours before the game. Result: Ohio 41, Georgia Southern 21.

In other games, FAMU needed a late comeback to net me 40 points in the Celebration Bowl. Fresno State bombed new Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Tim Beck and New Mexico State. UCLA and Texas Tech closed out their season with bowl wins. Jacksonville State won a bowl game in its first FBS season. Miami (Ohio) and App State played in, uh, an absolute rainstorm.

That leaves us with these as the standings after seven games:

Today just has one bowl game, but it’s at 1:30 in the afternoon for those of you who are attempting to not get anything done at work. But wait, there’s more! That’s right, the NAIA championship game is on ESPN3 at 11 AM!

NAIA Championship: Northwestern (Iowa) vs. Keiser (11:00 AM CT, ESPN3): BECAUSE IT’S THE FUCKING NAIA AND WE PLAY OUR CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AT 11 AM ON A MONDAY.

Famous Toastery Bowl: Western Kentucky vs. Old Dominion (1:30 PM CT, ESPN): This was originally supposed to be the Bahamas Bowl, but thanks to renovations at Thomas Robinson Stadium, it’s being played in Charlotte instead. It couldn’t still be called the Bahamas Bowl, I guess, so now it’s known as the Famous Toastery Bowl.

Like a lot of bowl sponsors, you’re probably wondering “what the fuck is a Famous Toastery,” and the answer is that it’s a restaurant that specializes in breakfast with a bunch of locations in the Charlotte area, with only seven locations outside the state of North Carolina and three of those appear to be still in the Charlotte area on the map.

I suppose there’s a reason why Old Dominion is favored in this game and it’s probably opt-outs. Whatever. Have fun not doing work. Thanks to Monday Night Football for forcing ESPN to move this one to the afternoon.
