MTSU DL Zaylin Wood commits to Vanderbilt

Finally, Vanderbilt gets some good news from the transfer portal. Zaylin Wood, a three-year starter on Middle Tennessee’s defensive line, announced his commitment to play at Vanderbilt next season.

Wood, who redshirted in 2019, will be in his sixth year of college football and will have one year of eligibility to play at Vanderbilt. At 6’2” and 273 pounds, he’s a bit undersized for an SEC defensive lineman, and his 2023 season — in which he missed a month due to injury — wasn’t his greatest performance, notching 16 tackles with 4 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. In 2022, though, he finished with 34 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and did this to Miami:

I’m not sure if this guy will be a starter at Vanderbilt, but defensive line depth — particularly a guy with four-plus years of experience playing college ball — is always good to have.
