Anchor Drop, July 2, 2021: 64 Days to Kickoff

We are now 64 days away from Vanderbilt football’s season opener against East Tennessee State. There is no 64 on the roster at present (and, uh, freshmen still don’t have jersey numbers? When exactly are they going to update this?)

With baseball season over, we’re entering the time of year when there aren’t going to be a ton of updates in the Anchor Drop. But the football team did get a new commitment: Miguel Mitchell, a defensive back out of Oxford, Alabama.

If you’re keeping score at home, that gives Vanderbilt 11 commitments already in the Class of 2022, and Rivals currently has the class ranked 45th nationally, while 247 Sports ranks it 38th. (247 Sports also has the basketball recruiting class ranked 8th nationally, but that’s mostly a function of Vanderbilt actually having three players committed and two of them being ranked 97th and 129th.)

And speaking of basketball, Vanderbilt has two former players on the Team USA Select that will be essentially practice squad goons for the Olympic team. Darius Garland and John Jenkins are so honored.
