Miles Capers

Hometown: Sumter, South Carolina

High School: Sumter

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 225

Position: Linebacker

Rivals: Two-star recruit

247 Sports: Three-star recruit, #85 weakside defensive end, #23 in South Carolina, #1579 national

Other offers: Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi State, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia

There are two types of high school highlight films. There are the ones where the guy looks completely dominant (as a college prospect should at the high school level) and then there are the ones where nothing really stands out, but then I realize that I’m not somebody who evaluates football talent for a living and I really have no idea what I’m talking about.

Miles Capers is in the latter category, as you’d expect from a guy that scouting services aren’t high on and didn’t have a great offer list. Capers has a long frame at 6’5” and it’s not clear if he projects to play linebacker or defensive end — Vanderbilt’s website says he’s a linebacker, but who knows if that still applies with the shift from Derek Mason’s 3-4 defense to Clark Lea’s more conventional four-man defensive front.

Anyway, at 225 pounds, I’m not going to expect any big early contributions from Capers. This is much more of a “check in in a couple of years and see if we have something” kind of deal.
