No, I don’t get it, either.

Good morning.

Optional Musical Accompaniment

Oh, I’m sure everyone will be okay with this.

Stephanie White will return as Vanderbilt women’s basketball coach for her sixth season, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation told The Tennessean on Friday.

The thing about this is that Vanderbilt is telling us they don’t care about the women’s basketball program any more. Stephanie White’s record in five years at Vanderbilt is 46-83, 13-54 in SEC games, and the team for all intents and purposes quit on the season midway through January.

Meanwhile, here were the records in each of her five seasons, from first to last: 14-16 (4-12), 7-24 (3-13), 7-23 (2-14), 14-16 (4-12), 4-4 (0-3). If you’re keeping score at home, that’s five years without a winning season, and never winning more than four SEC games. It’s like if Derek Mason hadn’t gone to two bowl games in five years and then Vanderbilt decided to give him a sixth year anyway, and also if the football program were accustomed to success and not being the doormat of the SEC East. I mean, what exactly is the argument here? The only possible one I can think of is that the university would rather not pay a buyout to a women’s basketball coach, which, fine... but why give her a six-year contract in the first place?

Anyway, on to the other news...

Baseball ruined Illinois-Chicago by a 15-0 score yesterday. They’ll play again at 2 PM CT today on the SEC Network+, and you can go ahead and take about an hour break from Anchor of Gold before the basketball team’s regular-season finale against Ole Miss tips off at 6 PM CT on the SEC Network.

The Hustler has more on the baseball game from yesterday.

The other thing going on today is the second day of the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, where Vanderbilt bowling bizarrely finds itself in 14th place in a 19-team field. They’ll get started again today at 9:30 AM CT, with stream on the bowling team’s YouTube channel.

Not a great day for tennis, either: men’s tennis lost 4-3 to MTSU, while the women lost to Arkansas by the same score.
