Vanderbilt suddenly has an opening at running back after Keyon Henry-Brooks entered the transfer portal last month, and Dylan Betts-Pauley from Hoover, Alabama, is about to join the running back room.

While he’s listed as a three-star recruit, it’s not hard to see what the coaching staff likes here. He doesn’t appear to have top-shelf speed, just a compact, powerful running style that should work well in the SEC. MaxPreps lists him as having gained 358 rushing yards on 76 carries in 2020, though those stats appear to be incomplete.

Anyway, Betts-Pauley is one of three running backs in the 2021 class along with New Jersey native Patrick Smith and Temple transfer Re’Mahn Davis. Vanderbilt has a lot of bodies in the running back room (Ja’Veon Marlow and Rocko Griffin, along with the newcomers) but with Henry-Brooks gone has no real proven quantities there.
