Good morning.
Optional Musical Accompaniment
Vanderbilt baseball heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma, today to start its first road series of the season against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are 10-0-1 (there are ties?) and ranked 9th in the country, and this marks the stiffest test the Commodores have faced so far this season. Tonight’s game will start at 6 PM CT, and all three games will be streamed on ESPN+. Andrew will have your series preview later today.
Basketball ended the 2020-21 season yesterday with a 69-63 loss to Florida in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The Commodores finish with a 9-16 record, but at 93 in KenPom they’re in the top 100 for the first time since 2018. I’ll have additional thoughts on the season later this morning (and yes, goddamnit, player report cards are coming and will be finished), but there’s already some player movement per Jerry Stackhouse at his postgame press conference:
Stack adds that he would love to have Max Evans and/or Clevon Brown back.

And that Ejike Obinna will be moving on to seek a specific graduate degree program not offered at Vanderbilt. Stack praised the big man for his versatility and for being a great teammate. https://t.co/MKAb3wU0hK
(More interesting than Ejike Obinna moving on, which I kind of expected after he was honored on Senior Night, is that Max Evans and Clevon Brown are both considering a return since the NCAA granted all seniors a free year of eligibility. Note that neither would count against Vanderbilt’s scholarship limit next season were they to return.)
Soccer opened its spring season with a 3-1 win over Kennesaw State on Thursday, with Maddie Elwell assisting on all three goals.
Men’s tennis travels to Kentucky today at 2 PM CT.
