As we finish up the Better Know A Signee series, we’ll first go through the players who are already enrolled at Vanderbilt and will be participating in spring practice.
Vanderbilt has made a point in the last two signing classes of revamping its offensive line. After taking four offensive linemen in the 2020 class, they’ve taken four again in 2021, plus a transfer. Three of the four incoming freshmen on the offensive line are in for spring practice and Jake Ketschek is the second of those.
Ketschek is listed as an offensive tackle on 247 Sports, but at 6’4” and 310 pounds, I tend to agree with Rivals that he probably slots better on the interior. Vanderbilt hasn’t been afraid to play true freshmen on the line — see Bradley Ashmore last season, granted that probably had quite a bit to do with all the opt-outs on the line — but Ketschek looks like a guy who will probably need a year or two of seasoning. Luckily, some of the opt-outs are returning in 2021 so Vanderbilt should be able to stash the freshmen.
