I recommend watching this guy’s highlight tape if you enjoy watching a high school offensive lineman just destroy some dudes. It’s always fun because watching a guy who goes 6’5” and north of 300 pounds block obviously overmatched defensive players will get you excited about what Vanderbilt has coming in, and then you remember that no, SEC teams are not fielding 200-pound defensive linemen.
Anyway, Delfin Xavier Castillo (I’ve seen him referred to as both “Delfin Castillo” on Rivals and “Xavier Castillo” on 247) is the first of four high school offensive line signees in Vanderbilt’s 2021 recruiting class, and he’s the highest-rated because, well, you saw the highlight video, right? Right. And that was after Vanderbilt signed four offensive linemen in the 2020 class (and they also brought in an immediately-eligible transfer offensive lineman this year), so it’s clear that somebody on the coaching staff looked at the offensive line and said “yeah, we need help here.” There are a lot of bodies on the offensive line and Castillo probably more than anyone should merit a look at early playing time, particularly if the opt-outs from last year’s team don’t return.
