Good morning.
Optional Musical Accompaniment
It’s Senior Day for Vanderbilt basketball. Four seniors — Maxwell Evans, Clevon Brown, Ejike Obinna, and Isaiah Rice — will be honored prior to the game against Ole Miss, which tips off at 2:30 PM CT on the SEC Network. (For the record, Obinna is technically considered a redshirt junior, though I assume the fact that he’s being honored on Senior Day suggests that he’s graduating this year.) Anyway, the last time Vanderbilt beat Ole Miss at Memorial Gym was all the way back in 2011, which is sort of embarrassing. Can we end their NCAA Tournament hopes today?
(By the way, the SEC added a road game at Ole Miss to Vanderbilt’s schedule next Saturday, March 6 — the final day of the regular season. This means that Vanderbilt will have played a 16-game SEC schedule that will not include Missouri or Texas A&M. Like old times!)
Well, Vanderbilt baseball took its first loss of the season on Friday, dropping a 4-2 decision to Georgia State. They’ll pick things back up today with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM CT, with both games streaming on SEC Network+. Will we have dueling game threads? Yes. (Will Andrew and Tom simultaneously be live-tweeting baseball and basketball from the Anchor of Gold account? We will see.)
So, if two baseball games and a basketball game are not enough for you, bowling is competing in the second day of the Big Red Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the only disappointing thing about this is that it isn’t Western Kentucky and therefore we won’t be seeing Pinman slug it out with Big Red. Vanderbilt is in second place after the first day and they’ll pick things back up at 9:10 AM with stream on the bowling team’s YouTube channel. Oh, and the soccer team takes on DePaul at noon CT on the SEC Network+ in its second exhibition match of the spring. Men’s golf finished Friday in a tie for fourth at the LSU Invitational, two shots behind leader Illinois.
In football news, on-campus recruiting coordinator Taylor Searels is departing for Texas, where she’ll be Director of Recruiting Operations.
The tennis teams were both playing Auburn on Friday, with the women winning 4-3 while the men lost 6-1.
