Vanderbilt Commodores (2-0) vs. Western Kentucky Red Grimaces (1-2) Wednesday at 4:30pm CT on SECN+
The Diamond Dores are fresh off a 14-1 beat down and 1-0 pitchers’ duel (on the same day). They welcome their friends from Bowling Green who have, without a doubt, the best mascot in college sports.
2021 Record: 1-2. The Red Grimaces opened 2021 with a three game home series against the North Dakota State Poutin’ Carson Wentzes. As they are just a quick drive from Nashville, the Red Grimaces had to deal with frigid temperatures and snow, this weekend, as well. As such, they played one on Sunday and two on Monday. The Poutin’ Wentzes, being more used to playing in the cold, took the Red Grimaces to the woodshed on both ends of the double-header, winning 8-5 and 10-2 to take the series. The Red Grimaces did explode offensively on Sunday, though, as they salvaged one win in the series with an opening day 10-4 rout.
Player to Watch: #32 Richard “The Emperor” Constantine. The senior infielder had a fantastic opening weekend, slashing .429/.429/.500 with a 2B and 4 RBI.
I’d also pay attention to Sr. OF Ray “The Subaru” Zuberer III, who swiped 3-3 on the base paths. Keep him from reaching first base and we won’t have to worry about his speed.
Confidence Level: High.
That’s right, fellow teenaged girls, this afternoon is the debut of wunderkind Christian “Rock” Little. Remember, he should be pitching his senior year in high school right now. I have to imagine Corbs will ease him into his college career. Maybe 3-4 innings. Still, get your popcorn ready.
