Anchor Drop, February 10, 2021: Another Loss

Vanderbilt is now 1-8 in SEC play.

NCAA Basketball: Auburn at Vanderbilt Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Optional Musical Accompaniment

Well, Vanderbilt basketball took another loss, and once again it happened in a frustrating manner. The Commodores lost 73-67 to Auburn and now sit at 1-8 in the SEC. The most notable thing about last night’s game is that the defense did its part, holding Auburn under a point per possession (barely), but the offense... well, they shot 11-for-22 from the foul line. (FREE THROWS DAMNIT.) Vanderbilt next goes on the road to face Mississippi State on Saturday.

Baseball essentially won’t have fans in attendance to start the 2021 season, with only a limited number of player guests (read: family members) allowed at the Hawk for an indefinite period of time. I am sure this will go over well.

Football made its last two coaching staff hires official with the announcements of new offensive line coach A.J. Blazek, most recently of North Dakota State, and linebackers coach John Egorugwu, most recently of the Buffalo Bills.

Women’s golf notched a third-place finish at the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton.

Lacrosse was picked to finish second in the AAC (your reminder that Vanderbilt lacrosse plays in the AAC because the SEC doesn’t sponsor it) behind Florida, with four players picking up preseason All-AAC honors.
