Anchor Drop, January 29, 2021: Bowling returns

Yep, it’s time for the Prairie View A&M Invitational.

Good morning.

Optional Musical Accompaniment

Pinman is at the top of the page and you know what that means: Vanderbilt bowling is in action today. (For some reason, vucommodores.com doesn’t mention this outside of the calendar at the top of the page. What, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck?) Anyway, the Prairie View A&M Invitational starts today at the USA Bowl in Dallas, Texas, and the only information I can find comes from Prairie View A&M, which says this deal starts at 12:15 PM CT today. I assume the team’s YouTube channel will be streaming it. We riot if it does not.

On the football front, Vanderbilt officially announced the hire of new defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, along with new chief of staff Ben Cauthen, who was previously the video coordinator at Wake Forest.

The basketball team is drawing attention for all the wrong reasons: here’s Busting Brackets examining the Commodores’ recent struggles in the SEC, and Alyssa Muir’s Memorial Minutes at the Hustler continues to excoriate the defense (or lack thereof.) For the record, Vanderbilt is 14th in the SEC in defensive efficiency and is a full 6.5 points per 100 possessions behind 13th-place Georgia, and 12.3 points behind 12th-place Texas A&M. I also did my Statistical recap of the Florida game yesterday.

Haley Hopkins was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy (“the Heisman of Soccer”) watch list, and Holly Staff was named the SEC Freshman of the Week in women’s tennis.
