Good morning.
Optional Musical Accompaniment
Here we go again: as you probably already knew, last night’s game against Tennessee was postponed due to COVID protocols, and as of now we don’t know the status of Saturday’s game (also against Tennessee) or anything after that, nor do we know when the game will be rescheduled. To recap, Vanderbilt was initially scheduled to travel to Missouri, which got cancelled due to Missouri’s COVID issues — and then, Vanderbilt ended up having its own issues. If two weeks is the timetable, Vanderbilt won’t be back in action until the 27th against Florida... but we don’t know anything.
We haven’t heard much about Vanderbilt’s coordinator hires, but yesterday, 247 Sports reported that Cincinnati offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock is set to interview for the same position at Vanderbilt. If you’re wondering about the connection here, Denbrock has a long history with Brian Kelly, working on his staff at Division II Grand Valley State in the 1990s and then later finding his way onto Kelly’s Notre Dame staff; he was Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator in 2014, in fact (when the Irish averaged 32.8 ppg), then spent two more years as Notre Dame’s Associate Head Coach. In four years as Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator, the Bearcats have averaged 20.9, 34.9, 29.6, and 37.5 points per game.
Also from 247: a recap of Auburn defensive coordinator Derek Mason calling in to Nashville radio.
ICYMI: Danny Clark entered the transfer portal. How important was Danny Clark? Well, I used a photo of Mo Hasan because we didn’t have a photo of Danny Clark in a Vanderbilt uniform to use.
