Good morning.
Optional Musical Accompaniment
Well, Vanderbilt hired two new deputy athletic directors — and, uh, somehow one of them was a sitting FBS athletic director. Vanderbilt hired Tommy McClelland, formerly the AD at Louisiana Tech, and also hired Dr. Kristene Kelly, Dartmouth’s executive associate athletics director. Yeah, I don’t know how that happened, either. The Hustler has more.
Also, the Hustler has the most important news of the day: Vanderbilt is back up to Number 14 in the USNWR. Take that, Notre Dame.
Baseball starts fall training today. Andrew probably can tell you more about the team than I can.
Apparently on the Commodore Hour with Joe Fisher last night, Derek Mason said that the quarterback competition was down to two guys, though he didn’t name him. More importantly to Anchor of Gold readers, he did name a starting placekicker: Pierson Cooke, a junior walk-on from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Aaaaaand another defection from the football team:
BREAKING: Vanderbilt safety Tae Daley has entered the NCAA transfer portal, 247Sports has learned. Daley started nine games last year, was the Commodores' third leading tackler and grabbed three interceptions.https://t.co/7pyIloX3zt pic.twitter.com/DnEJ5v478g

In other news, the Big Ten apparently didn’t actually vote Sunday on restarting the season, while the Pac-12 says its “most aggressive” plan involves a November return. It probably doesn’t help that the Pac-12 is quite literally on fire right now.
