Today’s Featured Games
Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies—12:05pm CT TBS
Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies—3:05pm CT MLB.TV
Double header on the docket for the Bravos and Philadelphians. The Phillies won 5-0 last night, as Jake Arreita threw 6 IP scoreless. Not only was Arrieta’s sinker/slider combo spotting up perfectly, but the three relievers who came in—two of which are objectively terrible—also managed to keep the Braves off the scoreboard.
As for Kyle Wright, he had one horrid inning the 2nd time through the lineup, but Snitker let him pitch through it, and he found his stuff again. From what I saw, and the announcers concurred, Wright’s stuff plays, but he gets in his head the 2nd time through the lineup. As the Phillies announcers posited, perhaps Kyle has fixated on that stat that, and has allowed for it to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. It certainly seemed that way, as in the bottom of the 4th, the Phillies plated 4 runs before Wright recorded the first out—leadoff HR by Realmuto, single by Gregorius, walk by Segura, 3 run bomb by Bruce. I thought Snitker was going to take him out of the game right then, but he let him pitch through it. Following that, he went 3 IP scoreless. He seems like a man who needs a Crash Davis at catcher. He’ll figure it out, but this year might have a steep learning curve.
Swanson went 0-4 with 2K.
For today, the only Dore in this double header will be Swanson, but game two will feature the debut of exciting pitching prospect Spencer Howard for the Fightins. It’s appointment viewing for me. Your mileage may vary.
Other Games Featuring Former Dores
De2roit vs. Pittsburgh—12:35pm CT MLB.TV
The Pirates continue to get the crap kicked out of them, as De2roit trolley stomped them again, this time 11-5. Reynolds went 0-3 with a BB and a R.
Cin City vs. Milwaukee—1:10pm CT MLB.TV
The Reds won 4-1, despite Curt Casali having an 0-4 night. He’s 0-9 in the series. Sonny Gray on the mound this afternoon, though... so bad news for the Beer-makers.
Houston vs. Oakland—3:10pm CT ESPN+
The A’s continued their hot streak, beating the Trashcan Bangers 3-1 to improve to 11-4 on the season. The Bangers offense continues to prove that it is very difficult to hit major league pitching when you don’t know what pitch is coming.
No Kemp yesterday. Let’s hope he gets in today.
San Fransisky Garlic Fries vs. LA Dodgers—3:10pm CT MLB Network
Walker Buehler on the mound for Brooklyn this afternoon... so bad news for the Garlic Fries. Last night, though, Yaz went 2-5 with a R and 2 RBI to lead the Fries to a 5-4 victory. One of his hits was this beauty:
