Good morning.
We’re now 97 days away from Vanderbilt football’s (scheduled) season opener against Mercer, and we finally have a player on the roster with that number. That’s 6’5”, 250-pound redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Lorenza Surgers, from Cary, North Carolina, who saw his first career action against Ole Miss last year and also played in the UNLV game.
Optional Musical Accompaniment
The only notable news relating to Vanderbilt sports yesterday was, well, Vanderbilt football coach Derek Mason leaving his thoughts on the nationwide protests on Twitter.
I can only speak to my thoughts, feelings and emotions as another restless night gave way to my thoughts and prayers for the Floyd family.

(This also gave Dan Wolken a chance to dunk on some other coaches.)
Long thread. Even as many coaches have weighed in since my column yesterday, some are still just tweeting recruit shoutouts. https://t.co/K7hyj9pc8Y

The Hustler reported on the protests in downtown Nashville last night, which included the courthouse getting set on fire, which... ugh.
Anyway, have a good Sunday. Anchor Down.
