Anchor Drop, April 24, 2020: NFL Draft, Day Two

Maybe a Vanderbilt player gets drafted today?

NCAA Football: East Tennessee State at Vanderbilt Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

The first night of the NFL Draft — a very weird thing with Roger Goodell conducting the draft from his living room and Jerry Jones calling in picks from what appeared to be his yacht — concluded with no Vanderbilt players being selected, which was probably to be expected. Maybe somebody will go tonight, when rounds two and three will go on starting at 6:00 PM CT (I think, and yes, we’re probably going to have a live thread for it.) The Hustler has a draft profile on Ke’Shawn Vaughn, and SI has profiles on Jared Pinkney and Kalija Lipscomb. I’d expect those would be the only three players we’re looking for, and Vaughn might be the only one with a shot at going tonight.

John Augenstein has been named a finalist for the Haskins Award, given annually to the nation’s top men’s college golfer.

Here’s an interesting what-if: former Kentucky player John Pelphrey, now the head coach at Tennessee Tech (and previously at South Alabama and Arkansas), was apparently Vanderbilt-bound before Kentucky came in with a late scholarship offer.

YouTube Game of the Day

The conclusion of the history piece on the 1984 season will go live this afternoon. The actual conclusion to that season: the Tennessee game. Because of course.
