Vanderbilt Golfer, and owner of the best lettuce in the country, John Augenstein, has been named as a finalist to the Haskins Award.
The Haskins award is the Heisman Award for golf. What makes it unique is the award includes votes from collegiate golfers.
Augenstein has been a standout golfer since last summer. However, he fell into a little slump early in the Spring. I detailed the issues here, and then Auggie promptly went out and rattled a few pins to scare 59.
The two other finalists are Pepperdine’s Sahith Theegala and Georgia’s Davis Thompson.
The Haskins Award is named after Fred Haskins the former teaching professional based in Columbus, GA. If Thompson wins, we know that they ballots are skewed and Dawgs cheated, PAAAWWWWLLL.
Okay, that’s not true.
Previous winners include, Matthew Wolff, Norman Xiong, Maverick McNealy, Justin Thomas, Luke Donald, Matt Kuchar, Tiger Woods (perhaps you’ve heard of him?), David Duval, and Phil Mickelson (three times!).
The winner will be announced May 8.
