Anchor Drop, December 17, 2020: 21 Sign with Commodores

Also: women’s basketball is back in action tonight.

NCAA Football: Tennessee at Vanderbilt Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Optional Musical Accompaniment

The first day of the early signing period came and went with Vanderbilt signing 21 players (including two transfers.) I’ll have more on this later in the morning, but just know that this class currently ranks 29th (!) nationally in Rivals, just behind Penn State, though it’s 47th on 247 Sports and I can’t recall ever seeing a disparity that large between the two services.

In other football news, Randall Haynie joins the exodus to the transfer portal. Meh.

The men’s basketball team couldn’t quite come back from a 45-21 halftime deficit, losing 78-67 to Richmond. I mean, here’s where I point out that Richmond beat Kentucky 76-64 a couple of weeks ago. Transitive property!

Women’s basketball is back in action today at Memorial Gym, hosting VCU at 2:00 PM CT on the SEC Network+. Apparently midday basketball games are the thing this week? No game thread, use this as your game thread if you’re gonna watch it.
