NCAA Football: Louisiana State at Vanderbilt Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Optional Musical Accompaniment

Vanderbilt Athletic Director Candice Storey Lee held a press conference yesterday afternoon about the upcoming coaching search, and her performance was generally much better than earlier this year. Perhaps she’s growing into the job, or perhaps this really does say something about the relationship between Kirkland and McGugin. But anyway, one thing she said she’s looking for in a new coach is that he’s offensive-minded or, at least, willing to find somebody else who is. I can think of no better subtweet of the last coach than that.

Or, you could just make this joke.

(bike horn, slide whistle, kazoo)

Also, Vanderbilt landed a commitment from cornerback Marlen Sewell, who I guess literally does not care who is coaching Vanderbilt. It is intriguing that there has been no rush to the exits in Vanderbilt’s recruiting class after Derek Mason was fired on Sunday.

Game Notes for Saturday’s game at Georgia. I am sure Todd Fitch’s head coaching debut will go well.

Sarah Fuller is the SEC Special Teams Co-Player of the Week (with Florida’s Kadarius Toney), a fact that has triggered a lot of dumb people on the internet.

ICYMI: Vanderbilt has paused all basketball activities (just for the men.) Or, as parlagi said in the comments yesterday, an apt description of what Vanderbilt did sometime in 2017.
