2020 Staff Pick’em Week 9

The staff’s ability to predict games may be stabilizing a bit. Maybe.

NCAA Football: Louisiana State at Auburn
Here you can see everyone else running away with a win while I mutter amused dirty words about Gus Malzahn.
John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Nobody had a truly bad or great week. Tom was the “worst” at 3-5 while VU ‘04 and Import had the best records at 5-3. CDA and I went 4-4. Stan abstained. We picked 9 games, but Ohio State at Penn State was a push. Overall, the staff was 21-19 to bring the season total to 170-224. We have been narrowly over .500 for the last two weeks.

The two big losses were Georgia failing to beat Kentucky by more than 14 and Georgia Tech keeping it juuust within 20 of Notre Dame. Everyone except Import was on Georgia. All of us took the Golden Domers. Everyone nailed Alabama and Florida blasting Mississippi State and Missourah, respectively. I was the only one to think LSU would beat Auburn by a field goal or more in a game that Auburn won by 37. Auburn never makes sense. The three other games were 3 to 2 splits.

This Saturday is a short slate due to open dates. Only 5 SEC teams are in action. It could be our best week ever or the worst. Every single game was picked 5 to 1. CDA was the dissenter 3 times. Import, Tom, and VU ‘04 stood alone once each. Of course, instead of one of the extreme possibilities, the games will probably just split somewhere down the middle. We will be dead on for half the games while wildly wrong about the other half. Or wrong. Really, REALLY wrong.

The Rules

  1. Normally, the picks are for all SEC games with one dealer’s choice where I get to choose another game to make us pick. This year, it is going to be all SEC games, one dealer’s choice, and the Campbell Fighting Camels game! Why? Because I said so.
  2. The picks will be made AGAINST THE SPREAD. Too many games are easy to pick heads up. Also, this will serve as a PSA for why you should not get into sports gambling with more states making it legal.
  3. The lines will be taken from Oddshark’s consensus spread some time Monday, so they may not match what is listed at the time this article is published.
