I mocked Tom mercilessly for his being the only sub-0.500 staffer last week. I proceeded to go 1-8. The boss still did not get over the hump though. The struggles were across the board with only Stan winning more than he lost, and just barely, at 5-4. Tom, CDA, and Import were all just shy at 4-5. VU ‘04 joined me at 1-8. We are just giving everyone else to keep up, unlike last year. More on that later. Overall, the staff was 19-35. It was nice to have one good week.
Our two favorite teams, Vanderbilt and Campbell, busted all of us. Alabama helped us all. Mike Leach laid his typical egg to put 4 losses each on the board. Add Oklahoma to that damage. Tennessee winning big and Florida not winning big enoughwas also in the “2 winners and 4 losers” club, along with Auburn looking lackluster against Georgia. We were split 3-3 on Kentucky-Ole Miss, so that game was a wash.
Next week has a chance to be really good or really bad for us. There are 3 unanimous games and 4 split 5 to 1. Two more games are 4 to 2 with a lone even split.
I mentioned last season’s results earlier. It was brought to my attention that I had not posted the final results from 2019’s Pick’em. I, like Tom with player report cards, am awful at doing the final editions of the things I do. It was a hottly contested battle. VU ‘04 had a decent lead at 51-46 while I (48-49) and Import (45-50) gave chase. Shawn at 43-54 only had a hope and a prayer. CDA and Tom were toast at 41-56 and 40-57, respectively.
As a collective, we went 32-28 for rivalry week. VU ‘04 opened the door by going 4-6, along with Christian and Import. Tom was 6-4. Shawn and I tied for best of the week at 7-3. The bottom 4 tallies, from worst to first, were CDA (45-62), Tom (46-61), Import (49-56), and Shawn (50-57). Who was the winner between VU ‘04 and myself? We tied. We freaking tied at 55-52. Sigh. Now I wish I had not tallied them because I had just assumed I lost, but seeing how well I did in the final week gave me some hope. Typical.
- Normally, the picks are for all SEC games with one dealer’s choice where I get to choose another game to make us pick. This year, it is going to be all SEC games, one dealer’s choice, and the Campbell Fighting Camels game! Why? Because I said so.
- The picks will be made AGAINST THE SPREAD. Too many games are easy to pick heads up. Also, this will serve as a PSA for why you should not get into sports gambling with more states making it legal.
- The lines will be taken from Oddshark’s consensus spread some time Monday, so they may not match what is listed at the time this article is published.
