2020 Staff Pick’em Week 4

New, comments

SEC football came back, and 5 of the 6 pickers were above .500 for the week!

NCAA Football: Kentucky at Auburn
We all dunked on this game like Seth Williams on a Kentucky DB.
John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

The staff needed the return of SEC football. In the first two weeks, we had combined to go 29-55. It was UGLY. Like Hettening or UNLV ugly. Then, with SEC games filling the slate, the combined record was 35-31 for the week. Everyone was 6-5 or 7-4 except Tom. Our beloved editor is clearly too busy with all of the other work he does for this site. He managed to be 3-8. He has also found himself in last place even though Stan went 1-6 in both weeks 1 and 2. VU ‘04 has gotten above .500 on the season while CDA, Import (IMPORT!), and I are just shy of the threshold at 12-13.

For as good as the picks were last week, 4 games handed all or 5 of us a loss. Everyone missed when Missouri covered against Alabama and Tennessee covered against South Carolina. Only CDA correctly took underdog Syracuse who won outright. VU ‘04 was the lone beneficiary of Cincinnati beating Army by more than 11.5.

This weeks Unanimous Picks of Doom are for Alabama to beat Texas A&M by more than 16.5 in Tuscaloosa, Vanderbilt to lose by less than 20 to LSU at home, and Campbell to lose by less than 34.5 at Wake Forest. There are no games split 5 to 1. Five are split 4 to 2. Only Ole Miss (+6.5) at Kentucky is an even split among the pickers. Trying to decipher which gmae 1s were flukes or were indicative of things to come is always tricky. See if you agree and feel free to drop your own picks in the comments, though they will not be counted. Keep score at home and see how you do.

The Rules

  1. Normally, the picks are for all SEC games with one dealer’s choice where I get to choose another game to make us pick. This year, it is going to be all SEC games, one dealer’s choice, and the Campbell Fighting Camels game! Why? Because I said so.
  2. The picks will be made AGAINST THE SPREAD. Too many games are easy to pick heads up. Also, this will serve as a PSA for why you should not get into sports gambling with more states making it legal.
  3. The lines will be taken from Oddshark’s consensus spread some time Monday, so they may not match what is listed at the time this article is published.
