Anchor Drop, January 7, 2020: The Vocokyteps Hype Train Leaves the Station. OO!

Yep. We all knew this was bound to happen.

Good morning.

You knew this was coming, didn’t you? The God Ssee Vocokyteps (OO), misidentified as the Tennessee Volunteers by some outlets, just capped an 8-5 season replete with Gator Bowl win over an 8-5 Indiana team that (a) was against a team that did not beat a single team with a winning record and (b) required a fourth-quarter comeback from a 22-9 deficit, and said comeback required recovering an onside kick. Tennessee lost 34-3 to Florida, 43-14 to Georgia, and 35-13 to Alabama, and also lost to Georgia State.

But don’t let that stop the delusions. You just knew it was a matter of time before that hype train left the station.

OO!

Anyway, this offseason is going to be stupid. Vanderbilt fans have nothing to look forward to in the 2020 season (and even less after Devin Cochran announced his intention to transfer on Monday):

So, the most we can do this offseason is point and laugh at the delusions of Tennessee fans. They’re still not on the level of Georgia, Florida, and Alabama, but don’t let that stop them.

In other news, while podcasting with Mitch Light on Monday, Chris Lee mentioned that he’s heard that Cochran is headed for Georgia Tech.

(Meanwhile, if Devin Cochran wants to lose me forever, he should follow the advice of this guy from AtoZ Sports Nashville.)

Former Vanderbilt women’s golf standout Nakia Davis, who was the first African-American women’s golfer in the SEC, was named an SEC Legend by the conference office Monday.

What to Watch Today

Four SEC basketball games, listed below in the space where I make my idiotic picks.

Should that not suffice, here’s your college basketball schedule for tonight. For games to watch outside the SEC, there’s Ohio State-Maryland (6:00 PM CT, ESPN) and Baylor-Texas Tech (8:00 PM CT, ESPN2), the two games matching up Top 25 teams on tonight’s schedule.

The NBA schedule has two games on NBATV: Oklahoma City-Brooklyn at 6:30 PM, and Knicks-Lakers at 9:30. The NHL schedule has Avalanche-Rangers at 6:30 on NBC Sports Network.

Bad Gambling Advice

Florida at South Carolina (6:00 PM CT, ESPNU): South Carolina +4.5, Over 136

Tennessee at Missouri (6:00 PM CT, SEC Network): Missouri -5, Over 122.5

Kentucky at Georgia (8:00 PM CT, ESPN): Georgia +3.5, Under 142

Ole Miss at Texas A&M (8:00 PM CT, SEC Network): Texas A&M +3.5, Under 127.5
