Anchor Drop, January 6, 2020: Loss to Florida

Vanderbilt drops to 1-1 in SEC play.

NCAA Womens Basketball: Tennessee at Vanderbilt Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

The weekend brought both good news and bad news for the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team. The bad news: they lost to Florida on Sunday by a score of 68-60, snapping a six-game winning streak and dropping their record to 11-4, 1-1 in the SEC.

The good news? They landed a commitment from Kendal Cheesman, a four-star forward in the Class of 2021.

Aaaaaaaand there’s your news for today. (Don’t worry, tennis and bowling start back up again this weekend.)

What to Watch Today

The last bowl game before the national championship game! MIami (Ohio) takes on Louisiana-Lafayette in the LendingTree Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, at 6:30 PM CT on ESPN.

And that has, I guess, crowded out today’s college basketball schedule, because why would you put real games against the LendingTree Bowl? Three national TV games are Colgate-Army (6:00 PM CT, CBSSN), West Virginia-Oklahoma State (8:00 PM CT, ESPN2). and Southern-Prairie View A&M (8:30 PM CT, ESPNU.)

Tonight’s NBA schedule just has a couple of games on NBATV: Oklahoma City-Philadelphia at 6, Warriors-Kings at 9. In hockey action, NBC Sports Network has Edmonton-Toronto at 6 PM. The SEC Network has a women’s basketball game between Ole Miss and Texas A&M at 6.
