Anchor Drop, January 5, 2020: Women’s basketball at Florida

Also, supposedly the men’s team played a game last night.

NCAA Womens Basketball: Tennessee at Vanderbilt Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team continues SEC play today with a trip to Florida. Game time is 11:00 AM CT, and the game will be televised on ESPNU. The Commodores should have a good opportunity to move to 2-0 in SEC play: Florida is 9-5 on the season and got waxed, 93-47, by Mississippi State in their conference opener on Thursday night.

Also, the men’s team lost 92-81 to SMU in overtime, a very surprising result if you turned it off assuming they had it in the bag when they held a 72-57 lead with just over six minutes left in the game.

Vanderbilt formally announced three football coaching hires yesterday: Todd Fitch as offensive coordinator, Ted Roof as defensive coordinator, and Peter Rossomando as offensive line coach. We’d pretty much known about Fitch for a few days, and Roof’s name came out a few hours before the actual announcement. Rossomando came from out of nowhere, but he was Rutgers’ offensive line coach in 2019 and was a head coach for ten years before that.

What to Watch Today

Other than the women’s basketball game, you mean? (Consider this your open thread for that, by the way.)

Two more NFL Playoff games: Vikings-Saints at 12:05 PM CT on FOX, and Seahawks-Eagles at 3:40 PM CT on NBC. NBC Sports Network has two NHL games tonight: Red Wings-Blackhawks at 6:30, followed by the Preds in Anaheim at 9 PM. Here’s your college hoops schedule for the day, highlighted by Michigan-Michigan State at 12:30 PM CT on CBS. And, the final round of the PGA Tour’s Sentry Tournament of Champions is on the Golf Channel at 5 PM.
