Anchor Drop, August 25, 2019: 6 Days to Kickoff

IT’S GAME WEEK

South Carolina v Vanderbilt
I don’t know why but I want these uniforms back.

Good morning.

We are now 6 days away from Vanderbilt football’s season opener against the Georgia Bulldogs. That means... it’s finally, officially game week. #6 is worn by two newcomers. Freshman Gabe Jeudy is a 6’1”, 180-pound defensive back from Charlotte, NC, who we’re just going to assume is a redshirt candidate. And then there’s Riley Neal, the 6’6”, 225-pound graduate transfer QB from Yorktown, Indiana, by way of Ball State. Riley Neal is probably your starting quarterback this season. The last guy from Indiana who wore #6 and started at quarterback for Vanderbilt is pictured at the top of this post.

And speaking of game week, Vanderbilt has announced some “game day enhancements” to the fan experience. DotP wrote about it on Friday.

Vanderbilt’s Maria Bulanova is competing at the World Bowling Women’s Championships, which started on Saturday.

On Friday, the Tennessee General Assembly passed a resolution honoring the Vanderbilt baseball team, your 2019 National Champions.

After a 7-0 win over Georgia State to open the season, Vanderbilt soccer is back in action tonight, hosting the Evansville Purple Aces at 7:00 PM CT at the Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. As with most Vanderbilt home games, this can be streamed on the SEC Network+.

Also, it looks like Matthew Moyer has been named a co-captain of the men’s basketball team. Who the other co-captains are, we don’t know yet.

Off the West End

This is weird. Andrew Luck announced his retirement from the NFL after the Colts’ preseason game on Saturday. And then, well...

Gross. On the other hand, this:

And, here’s Khari Blasingame with his third touchdown of the preseason:
