Anchor Drop, July 1, 2019: 61 Days to Kickoff

Vanderbilt football picks up a new commit, and basketball lands a transfer.

Good morning.

We’re now 61 days away from Vanderbilt football’s season opener against the Georgia Bulldogs. #61 for the Commodores is offensive lineman Jonah Buchanan, who switched to the offensive side of the ball this offseason after two years on the defensive line. The 6’4”, 285-pound redshirt sophomore from Honolulu did not see any action last season.

So, since it’s been a couple of days since the last time I posted the Anchor Drop (apologies), we’ve missed both a new commitment for the football team and a new transfer addition to the basketball team. On the football side, Atlanta Westlake ATH Chase Lloyd — the #900 national recruit in the 247 Sports composite — announced his commitment on Saturday.

And on the basketball side, Quentin Millora-Brown announced via Twitter that he would be transferring to Vanderbilt.

Millora-Brown averaged 7.2 ppg and 5.9 rpg as a freshman at Rice last season, and shot 59.8 percent from the floor; he also averaged 1.2 blocks per game, while playing just 23.3 minutes a game. This seems like a nice pickup, though he’ll presumably sit out 2019-20 and have three years to play after that.

Off the West End

Bill C. writing for ESPN is never going to be not weird.

Lots of stuff out there about NBA free agency that I’m not going to link to, because there’s so much of it... but that seems to be most of the sports news today.
