Anchor Drop, June 9, 2019: 83 Days to Kickoff

Kumar Rocker threw a no-hitter last night. You might have heard.

NCAA Football: Mississippi at Vanderbilt Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

We are now 83 days away from Vanderbilt football’s season opener against Georgia. #83 is sophomore WR C.J. Bolar. The 6’3”, 190-pound Purvis, Mississippi, native was, to put it bluntly, stolen right from under the noses of his home-state schools: while he did have an offer from Mississippi State (and Southern Miss, where his mother played basketball), Ole Miss was notably absent from his recruitment. As a freshman, he caught 34 passes for 440 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His role only figures to increase from here, though he may have a hard time getting more touches in Vanderbilt’s suddenly-potent receiving corps.

The big news of the day is, obviously, Kumar Rocker’s 19-strikeout no-hitter in Vanderbilt’s 3-0 win over Duke on Saturday night. That bounce-back from a loss on Friday night means that Vanderbilt now heads to a deciding Game 3 at 2:00 PM CT on ESPN2, with a trip to Omaha on the line.

Rob Friedman (a.k.a. @pitchingninja on Twitter) has helpfully made this into a 52-second GIF:
