On The Mound

Vanderbilt Jr. RHP Drake “Safari Planet” Fellows (12-0, 3.87 ERA)

vs.

Duke RS Sr. RHP Ben “El Bruto” Gross (7-4, 4.09 ERA)

Since Ace LHP Graeme “Barney” Stinson went down with a dead arm in mid March, Gross has assumed the role of Friday starter. The 6’1” 5th year senior from Cranbury, NJ transferred from baseball powerhouse (checks notes) Princeton University, after being drafted in the 34th round by the Houston Astros. Grad student transfers do not happen nearly as often in baseball as they do in football, but it seemed to work out for El Bruto, as not only did he get a free year of grad school at the Fuqua School of Business, he was drafted in the 10th round this year by the Minnesota Twins.

Gross pitched a great game against aTm in game one of the Morgantown Regional, going 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, and 5 K on 91 total pitches. Our lineup is not aTm’s lineup. There are no breaks in our lineup.

His fastball stays around 90mph, and has averaged 8.8 K/9 and a 1.22 WHIP. Opponents are batting .224 against him on the year. Look for that last number to rise.

Gross has performed admirably for Duke, but unluckily for him, he is not a soft tossing lefty, so he’s in for a long night.

The Lineup

No surprises there.
