Open Thread: College World Series — Day 1

Texas Tech-Michigan and Florida State-Arkansas, today on ESPN.

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Practice Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Vanderbilt doesn’t play today, but the College World Series gets underway from TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

Somehow, both of the regional 3-seeds that made it to Omaha wound up on the same side of the bracket — and they won’t play one another today. At 1:00 PM CT, national 8-seed Texas Tech meets Michigan; then, at 6:00 PM CT, national 5-seed Arkansas plays Florida State. Both games will be televised on ESPN.

On paper, Texas Tech and Arkansas are favored, but you never really know what will happen when you get to Omaha. Michigan is in the College World Series for the first time since Barry Larkin played in Ann Arbor, while Florida State is putting a cap on longtime head coach Mike Martin’s career.

So here’s your open thread. We’ll probably do this every day. Anchor Down.
