Anchor Drop, March 26, 2019: The Silence Continues

Nope, we still don’t know anything.

NCAA Basketball: SEC Conference Tournament-Texas A&M vs Vanderbilt Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

It’s Tuesday, and we still don’t have much of an indication of where Vanderbilt’s search for a new basketball coach is going. We have some vague ideas based on speculation, but not a whole lot else. Last night I posted a profile of Johnny Dawkins, because that was the name that was being talked about a lot on Twitter yesterday and not really a whole lot of other reasons.

But really, your guess as to the direction of the coaching search is as good as mine — and mine’s not very good. Even in comparison to the 2016 coaching search — where we had a pretty good idea that Vanderbilt targeted Gregg Marshall and put out feelers on Will Wade — this one’s almost completely silent so far.

So onward we go. The baseball team is back in action tonight, playing its second of two games at First Tennessee Park — this time against Lipscomb, which comes in with an 11-11 record. Like last week’s game at First Tennessee, this one won’t be televised or available for streaming; instead, you’ll have to listen to Joe Fisher. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT.

Women’s golf swept Texas Tech in the first round of the match-play Lamkin Invitational on Monday. They’ll face San Diego State on Tuesday. In the stroke play portion of the event Monday morning, the Commodores shot 25-over par to finish fifth.

Off the West End

In the latest twist of the college basketball pay-for-play scandal, notorious ambulance chaser Michael Avenatti allegedly tried to extort Nike for $20 million by threatening to reveal its involvement.

It’s Georgia and it’s the offseason, so somebody’s getting arrested.
