The Vanderbilt women’s basketball program has been to a Final Four, finished a season ranked #1 in the AP poll, and won the SEC Tournament six times.
But prior to Thursday night, it had never beaten Tennessee in Knoxville. Consider that done. The Commodores, 6-21 and 1-13 in the SEC entering tonight, fell behind 15-9 in the first quarter and trailed 27-25 at halftime. But they pulled ahead midway through the third quarter and never looked back, building a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter and holding off a late charge from the Vols for a 76-69 win.
This still isn’t a great season, obviously, but Stephanie White’s team just did something that eluded 33 previous Vanderbilt teams.
Now, if the men’s team could win a game...
