Anchor Drop, February 28, 2019: At least lacrosse won?

Last night was bad.

NCAA Basketball: Florida at Vanderbilt Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Well, at least the lacrosse team won yesterday. The Commodores improved to 4-0 on the season with a 9-8 overtime win over Louisville.

On the other hand...

Baseball lost to Austin Peay in extra innings by a 7-6 score. Vanderbilt took a 5-3 lead into the ninth but couldn’t hold it, and then surrendered two runs in the tenth inning without giving up a hit. That’s bad. Of course, midweek games are always weird since the team’s best pitchers are usually held out of action — but then, that applies to the other team, too. And Austin Peay had won two games before last night.

Meanwhile, the basketball team lost, which isn’t anything new — it was their sixteenth loss in a row, and they’re now 9-19 on the season and 0-15 in the SEC. The 71-55 loss to Florida didn’t feel out of reach for much of the game, but Vanderbilt never really made any sort of run to make Florida sweat. They have three games to avoid 0-18, and only one of those — Senior Night against Arkansas next week — is at home. The other two games are at Texas A&M and LSU.

Women’s basketball will travel to Tennessee tonight for its final road game of the season. The game will be at 6 PM CT on the SEC Network.
