Woodford Academy (GA) QB Michael Wright Switches and Signs National Letter of Intent with Vanderbilt

The QB from Atlanta becomes the third player to Anchor Down after having been committed to another school in recent days.

Michael Wright

Quarterback

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 185

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

High School: Woodward Academy

Rivals: Three-star recruit, #23 pro-style QB, #38 prospect in Georgia

247 Sports: #1326 national recruit, #28 dual-threat QB, #125 prospect in Georgia

Competing Power 5 offers: eUCF (who he had been committed to since 6/16/2019), Northwestern, Arkansas, Boston College, Cincinnati

This was the big surprise of the morning. Wright had been committed to UCF since June 16, 2019. A review of his Twitter account shows that even into the first week of December Wright was proudly using UCF’s hashtags, so the reason for the switch is a bit unclear.

As it stands, Wright is the second QB in a class where Derek Mason needs to find a star at QB. Ken Seals has had all of the headlines, but Wright is not so far off him according the recruiting sites. Wright is only 6 spots behind him on the Rivals position ranking. 247 Sports has him as a Dual-Threat QB which seems more accurate though because this video shows something that is ludicrous if accurate.

I have no idea how accurate the Recruiting Analytics technology is. Either way, Wright looks fast. He also has room to grow on his frame with being 6’4” and only 185 pounds. Unfortunately, it appears unlikely the he will be an early enrolle (unlike Seals) to get extended time in the weight room. The extra 5 months that come with arriving in January versus June, along with getting to take part in spring practice, would have been very valuable to Wright, especially since he will likely be competing with Seals, Hasan (if reports about him being done with football are untrue), and any graduate transfer QB who might join the Commodores if there is one.

Welcome to West End, Mike! And Anchor Down!
