It’s the annual tradition, the Game That Is Inexplicably Played in a Random NBA Arena In Front of a Sparse Crowd. This time, the opponent is the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, and the venue is the Talking Stick Resort Arena, normally the home of the Phoenix Suns.
No, neither Vanderbilt nor Loyola-Chicago is anywhere close to Phoenix. Saben Lee is from Phoenix, so he gets to play in front of friends and family. Also, this game tips off at 5:30 PM. I barely have time to get home from work.
Anyway, Loyola-Chicago is not the same team that went to the Final Four a couple of years ago. We will always appreciate them for beating Tennessee in heartwrenching fashion on the way there, though. Anchor Down.
