Every year since 2008, the Vanderbilt Commodores have seen the South Carolina Gamecocks on the schedule and thought, this team looks like a team we can beat. And every year since 2008, the Vanderbilt Commodores have come away with a loss to the Gamecocks.
I’m sorry, Game Penises. Anyway.
The last time Vanderbilt beat South Carolina, Tom was a Vanderbilt student. Do any of our writers dare to predict a Commodore win?
Tom Stephenson
You will not fool me. Every year, I pick a win against South Carolina, and every year, I am sorely disappointed. Therefore, the only correct response is to ... not predict a win.
In all seriousness, I liked some of the things I saw against Missouri. I liked the renewed effort on the defensive side of the ball, and I liked what Mo Hasan brought to the table at quarterback. And Ke’Shawn Vaughn is the workhorse we wanted him to be. But I also remember that it’s only been three weeks since UNLV blew us out.
The Pick: South Carolina 21, Vanderbilt 17
The SEC Upset Pick of the Week: UAB (+12) over Tennessee, because fuck ‘em.

This game, given current momentum and Muschamp nonsense, is not exactly one I would urge you to run to Vegas and bet on. Still, the Dores have not beat the Penises since ‘08, and I can’t imagine current Het Wet Mason turning the tide. They beat Georgia. We were demolished by Georgia. Don’t overthink it. This game will require an outdoor barbecue and multiple kegs of home-made craft beer to maintain happiness throughout. Luckily, my plan is to BBQ outdoors, and we have kegged our latest Wee Heavy.
The Pick: South Carolina 27, Vanderbilt 13
The SEC Upset Pick of the Week: Georgia is going down in the Cocktail Party. The Jorts will have a 3 martini lunch for breakfast, brunch, lunch, linner, and dinner. This one will kick Kirby in the Smarts.

Andrew, you should NEVER encourage anyone to go vegan. What does that have to do with football or Muschamp? That rage can only be fueled by consuming raw red meat.
Anyway, I share Tom's sentiment. We are not winning this game. It will be painfully close though. Of the 10-straight losses, 4 have been one score games. 2 more were within 10. Only 2 have beem more than 14.
I counter the UGA mutual opponent by presenting Missouri. South Carolina also just got thrashed by THEM. Basically, Will Muschamp teams are weird. The transitive property in college football is trash. (But we should all bow before SEC East champs Georgia State.)
Assuming Hasan is healthy, I think the offense takes a step forward from inspired to effective. Cold could play a factor, especially when passing, later in the game though. The defense plays well again, but Bryan Edwards and Shi Smith will have some big receptions while Tavien Feaster grinds out just enough on the ground.
The Pick: South Carolina 24 Vanderbilt 21
The SEC Upset Pick of the Week: Um...I guess I was really wrong about Florida. They are going to beat UGA (except not now that I am buying their legitimacy). The Bulldogs are really going to waste this season. Woof.
