2019 Staff Pick’em Week 7

The one where I finally get the weeks right and am still on top.

Auburn v Florida
The Gus Bus hit a pothole and jarred all of our picks. At least it is not a full-on tire fire this season !

The staff rebounded a bit this week. It could have been a lot better, but the composite for the week is 17-19. Import continues to hurt his “Fade Import” venture by going 4-2 this week which tied with me for this week’s best. CDA and VU ‘04 managed to go 3-3 while Shawn went 2-4. Tom improved on 0-5 by going 1-5. For the season, the group is at 138-172. Vegas wishes we were actually putting money on these games.

The 6-game set was actually fairly kind. The problem was that all of us took both Vanderbilt and Auburn. Ten of the Nineteen losses came in those two games. Tom and CDA got a little tricky with LSU and were burned. Shawn, Tom, and ‘04 did not trust Missouri against Troy and were wrong. Shawn and Tom thought Tennessee could cover, and were right ... until they were very much not right in the end. We all rightly saw Ohio State as handling Michigan State.

This week is very SEC-SEC heavy with 6 such matchups. Only our Commodores are playing out of conference this week with UNLV coming to town. LSU-Florida is the most high-profile game, but the other games have some intrigue too as Tennessee hopes to get another moral victory (but probably not a real one) while A&M and South Carolina will try to make their games with Alabama and Georgia closer than projected. Ole Miss-Missouri and Kentucky-Arkansas are also playing, but outside of a ton of points in Columbia, those games are only intriguing if you have money (or pride) on the line in them.

The Red River Shootout is also on the slate. Apparently, folks in Texas thing Jalen Hurts comparing the RRS to the Iron Bowl is insulting because they play real, physical football in Texas. Because of course they do. Texas is definitely not leading the charge towards a 7-on-7 style of football with all of the spread offenses. They are way more tough than those pansies at Alabama and Auburn. Typical Texas.

The Rules

All SEC games against FBS competition will be picked. FCS games are excluded since lines are often not available until very late in the week or even the morning of the game.

One other game, typically a matchup of Top 25 teams, will be part of the picks.

The picks will be made AGAINST THE SPREAD. Too many games are easy to pick heads up. Also, this will serve as a PSA for why you should not get into sports gambling if Tennessee (or wherever you reside) makes it legal.

The lines will be taken from ESPN Oddshark (because ESPN was not updating by Monday morning) sometime Monday, so they may not match what is listed at the time this article is published.
