NCAA Womens Basketball: Tennessee at Vanderbilt Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Vanderbilt women’s basketball is now 5-10 and 0-2 in the SEC after losing at home to Georgia by a 71-64 score on Sunday. This one was at least close; the game was tied at 43 entering the fourth quarter, and Vanderbilt trailed by two with 1:04 left. But for a team that went 7-24 last year, losses are still losses. It’s hard to put a positive spin on another one.

Over at the Tennessean, Joe Rexrode argues that Bryce Drew’s team is still talented enough to make the NCAA Tournament. I’d absolutely agree with this, but (a) the team is inexperienced — it’s depending a lot on freshmen and sophomores, which usually only works if you’re Duke or Kentucky — and (b) the team has specific issues, like a lack of shooters, that will make it difficult to do. We’ll see what happens at Georgia in Wednesday.

Off the West End

Ouch, Bears.

Your NFL Playoffs Divisional Round: Chargers at Patriots, Colts at Chiefs, Cowboys at Rams, Eagles at Saints.

Oh yeah, and college football’s final game is tonight: Alabama and Clemson, live from Santa Clara, California. College football media’s incessant bitching about having to go to the Bay Area will end after tonight. (Seriously — you guys are mad that you got sent to the Bay Area instead of Atlanta? What the hell is wrong with you people?)
