Anchor Drop, January 3, 2019: Women Open SEC Play

The Commodores take on Kentucky tonight.

NCAA Womens Basketball: Tennessee at Vanderbilt Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Vanderbilt women’s basketball opens SEC play at Kentucky tonight at 6:00 PM. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+. Kentucky is 13-1 and currently ranked #16 in the country, so this will be a tough one for Vanderbilt.

The Commodores finished nonconference play at 5-8, though they did beat Samford 77-52 the last time out. They’re still a bit shorthanded, though not as much as a couple of weeks ago when they fielded six players. Either way, beating Kentucky on the road is going to be a difficult task. After last year’s 7-24 record, Vanderbilt was going to need to turn things around in a hurry in Stephanie White’s third year and that doesn’t appear to be happening.

At this point, I think we know how this ends.

This is a bit truncated as I unexpectedly got called into court this morning, but that’s all that is really going on with Vanderbilt athletics today.
