With the release of the latest AP poll on Monday, it is now official. On Wednesday night, Vanderbilt will play the #1 team in the country for the 27th time in school history.

Amazingly, Tennessee has now been ranked #1 twice in its history, and both times the Vols’ first game as #1 came at Memorial Gym. Shan Foster and Vanderbilt notched a 72-69 win over the Vols in 2008, one of eight wins over #1 in school history. Vanderbilt has played #1 at Memorial Gym on 12 occasions and is 6-6 in those games. (A 1951 home game against Kentucky predated Memorial Gym.) The other two wins both came in the SEC Tournament in 1951 and 2012.

That 2012 game is Vanderbilt’s most recent win over the #1 team; the last game came four years ago in Rupp Arena.
