A promising start to the 2018 football season was deflated last weekend with a 37-14 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, Vanderbilt’s second in a row, dropping their record to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the SEC. Now, Vanderbilt has an opportunity to snap the losing streak as Tennessee State makes the two-mile trip to Vanderbilt Stadium for today’s game.

Tennessee State is 2-0, but Vanderbilt represents a big step up in competition for a team that’s beaten Bethune-Cookman and Eastern Illinois. Vanderbilt has never lost to an FCS team, and the Commodores have won both previous meetings with the Tigers, 38-9 in 2006 and 35-17 in 2016.

I will be happy if there is no funny business in this one. Don’t screw around, put this one to bed early, and let’s get Allan Walters his first action in a Vanderbilt uniform. Just don’t screw this up.
