11 of Vanderbilt’s 12 commitments have started their high school seasons. The lone holdout: Anfernee Orji (Texas kicks off its high school season this Friday.) Here’s your weekly rundown of the Commodores’ commits.
RB Delbert Mimms III’s Ben Davis team took its first loss of the season, a 41-36 loss to Avon (IN.) That wasn’t really Mimms’ fault, though, as he had 16 carries for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the season, Mimms now has 26 carries for 172 yards (a 6.6 average) and 5 touchdowns.
TE Joel DeCoursey and his Zionsville team picked up their first win of the season with a 56-6 thrashing of Lebanon (IN.) DeCoursey had 2 catches for 46 yards and a touchdown, his first of the season. For the year, he now has 5 receptions for 99 yards.
DB Jayden Harrison’s Pearl-Cohn team dropped to 1-1 on the season with a 17-7 loss to MBA.
Devin Boddie’s Whitehaven team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 21-14 win over Ridgeway.
DL Christian James and Christian Brothers lost to Madison (AL) Bob Jones, 17-16.
TE Jeff Blake and Norcross were off this week.
In a matchup of SEC quarterback commits, QB Jamil Muhammad threw for 242 yards on 17-of-25 passing, but James Clemens lost to Alabama commit Taulia Tagovailoa and Alabaster (AL) Thompson, 38-7. DL commit Daevion Davis was drawing double teams all night.
DB Justin Harris’s Etowah team won its season opener, 32-23 over Gadsden City.
JR Tran-Reno’s Briarwood Christian team lost its season opener, 20-0 to Vestavia Hills.
Justin Ball’s Gonzaga team blanked Baltimore (MD) Gilman, 47-0, to open the season.
